In the Mauricie region, it’s often said that there’s plenty of room to breathe. It’s true! There’s no shortage of room for peace and quiet! Renowned for their colours and raw beauty, the landscapes of Mauricie are brimming with waterways.

There are more than 17,500 lakes and rivers to enjoy in summer and winter alike. The Rivière Saint-Maurice, which runs through the region, is a precious asset for Mauricie residents. We all have access to a waterway just a few steps from work or home. Whether you’re boating, paddling, kayaking or swimming with friends, enjoying the wild sounds of nature is another way to breathe fresh air in Mauricie.

Cultural facilities

In the Mauricie region, culture is as beautiful indoors as it is outdoors. Just look at the stars around a fire in Grandes-Piles! Museums, theatres, art centres, and exhibitions are designed by people who embody the spirit of our region. Our creativity is inspired by our people. Spaces and places abound in our cities, where we can learn, be entertained and share.

The Mauricie region itself is the largest museum of them all, where culture and nature blend harmoniously.

Healthcare and services

The healthcare network in the Mauricie region is well-developed. Whether it’s a CLSC (local community service centre), GMF (medical group practice), private clinic, pharmacy or hospital, access to healthcare is, on average, less than 15 minutes from home. In addition to being the region’s largest employer, the CIUSSS MCQ serves four hospitals in Mauricie: Louiseville, Trois-Rivières, Shawinigan and La Tuque.

Valuable community organizations are also established and supported in the Mauricie region, helping the young and not-so-young alike improve their living conditions.

Hunting in the Mauricie region is the art of blending in with nature’s rich wilderness. From majestic deer to small game, the varied terrain offers challenges and adventures to suit every hunter. Microbreweries

Mauricie ranks first among Québec regions with over 14 microbreweries and more than 164 national and international awards for our beer. Mauricie is undoubtedly the microbrewery heartland of Quebec! We even have our own brewers’ route that winds through our towns and villages.

There are many vineyards to discover. They offer great wine and breathtaking views. Mauricie distilleries, which constantly showcase the region’s colours in their products, are making a name for themselves internationally.

Let’s just say we’re always up for a cocktail hour with our neighbours in Mauricie!

Outfitters

Every year, more than 150,000 fishing and outdoor enthusiasts from Mauricie and elsewhere take advantage of the region’s fifty or so outfitters. In addition to the 500 jobs they create, outfitters are part of the area’s major industries. This makes the Mauricie one of Québec’s premier fishing and vacation destinations.

Parks and wildlife reserves

With its dozen parks and wildlife reserves, Mauricie has something for outdoor enthusiasts of all levels, whether they are in search of tranquillity or adrenaline. It’s also through the many green spaces that inhabit our urban and rural lands that you can enjoy the great outdoors.

The Parc National de la Mauricie is a well-known Québec attraction, especially for its picturesque trails, crystal-clear lakes and varied wildlife. The major sporting event, Les défis du Parc, takes place in the Parc National de la Mauricie, so you can enjoy its breathtaking scenery.

Hiking, hiking trails, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, wildlife observation, canoeing, fishing, wilderness camping…Mauricie is a natural playground.

Take advantage of lazy Sunday mornings to slow down and discover local produce and fresh foods of the day. That’s what Mauricie is all about. More than a dozen public markets abound in the region during the summer months. In addition to the opportunity to cook fresh local food, public markets are a great way to meet and support our local farmers and artisans. And those sweet Sundays often end with a good meal with friends and neighbours!

Schools and learning centres

With its 391 programs of study, the Université du Québec à Trois-Rivières (UQTR) welcomes over 15,000 students to its campuses every year, including an average of 3,000 international students.

The Mauricie region also stands out for its technical and practical training courses and opportunities for professional integration. In fact, there are four CEGEPs, colleges, and several specialized vocational training centres. What’s more, many programs encourage the integration of practical experience (internships) in the workplace during attendees’ studies, which really strengthens the professional connections between students and the region’s SMEs even before graduation. Entrepreneurs’ support for our educational institutions makes Mauricie a huge playground for curious and ingenious students.

Sports facilities

The diversity of our sports facilities, for the young and not-so-young alike, is an undeniable asset for people living in Mauricie, whether they like competitive or recreational activities.
Stadiums, arenas and sports centres: Versatile sports complexes feature soccer fields, baseball diamonds, tennis courts, ice hockey rinks, and much more. These facilities host competitions, tournaments and community events to keep families busy on weekends.

Swimming pools and aquatic centres: The Mauricie region offers indoor and outdoor swimming pools as well as one of the world’s largest outdoor aquatic centres (H2O), suitable for all ages.

Cycle paths: The towns have numerous cycle paths and tracks, offering cycling enthusiasts and families a variety of routes through breathtaking scenery.

Children’s playgrounds: Children’s playgrounds abound in the area, providing safe spaces for younger children.

Transportation

Port infrastructure, airport, seaplanes, trains…Mauricie is a diverse region offering a wealth of entrepreneurial, citizen, student and tourist opportunities to get around.

Open year-round, the port of Trois-Rivières is one of the largest in Québec. The airport, located in Trois-Rivières, is a valuable economic asset for companies using air transport as well as for enthusiasts and workers in the aeronautical sector. Rail access is available to Maskinongé, Shawinigan, Mékinac and La Tuque.

Public transport, cabs, bicycles and even quad bikes can also be used to get to work or shop in the city.

The Mauricie region is vast, filled with breathtaking scenery, lakes, rivers and conifers as far as the eye can see. When it’s time to drive several kilometres, a car is essential. The advantage is that traffic is pretty scarce around here!

Winter sports

The great thing about having nature just a few steps from home is that there’s no shortage of things to do, whatever the season. And in the Mauricie region, we love the colours of all seasons. Winter is no exception! The area’s varied terrain will surely please winter sports enthusiasts, from ski resorts and all-white cross-country ski trails to snowshoeing, dog sledding, and snowmobile rides.

And the beauty of it all is that trails are practically in our backyards! No need to drive two hours after a hard day’s work to enjoy the great outdoors. That’s Mauricie!
