Our city centre also has its own 5th Street, Broadway Avenue and a large park in the heart of the city, Parc Saint-Maurice.<\/p>\n<\/li><li><p>It&#8217;s well known that the people of Shawinigan say &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.tourismeshawinigan.com\/en\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Shawi<\/a>&#8221; in common usage, so much so that this habit, marking a deep sense of local pride, has even spread outside the city limits. (Now that we know each other, you&#8217;ll be able to say Shawi!)<\/p>\n<\/li><li><p>Shawinigan has long been known as the little Niagara of the East because of its <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tourismeshawinigan.com\/en\/activities\/shawinigan-falls\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">spectacular waterfalls<\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/li><li><p>Shawinigan means <a href=\"https:\/\/shawinigan.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/Histoire_de_Shawinigan_VF.pdf\"><em>Achawenekane<\/em><\/a>, which means \u201cportage over the ridge\u201d in Attikamek.
