If you drive on <a href=\"https:\/\/directionlatuque.ca\/fiches\/la-155\/\"><strong>Route 155<\/strong><\/a>, you&#8217;ll discover some breathtaking <strong>scenery<\/strong>. Halfway along the route, you can stop in <a href=\"https:\/\/vivrelamauricie.ca\/en\/region\/la-tuque\/\"><strong>La Tuque<\/strong><\/a>, a town with two cultures so different, yet so close at the same time: <strong>First Nation<\/strong>s and <strong>non-Aboriginal people<\/strong>. It&#8217;s relatively small, surrounded by <strong>wide open spaces<\/strong> and populated with great people.\u00a0 <strong>Christine Jean<\/strong> is proof of this. A member of the Innu First Nation of Mashteuiatsh and now Executive Director of the Wapan Rehabilitation Centre, she has chosen to live her life in this close-knit community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-9d6595d7 wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>Christine has visited some major centres and her jobs have taken her out of her hometown. Despite this, she chose <strong>La Tuque<\/strong> for its lifestyle, a <strong>lifestyle <\/strong>in the centre of a large green area where everything is connected to <strong>nature<\/strong>. La Tuque gives you access to <strong>zenitude<\/strong>, no need to drive three hours to breathe. \u201cI get off work, walk 15 steps and I&#8217;m on the cross-country ski track.\u201d An outdoor girl, Christine loves to take advantage of her territory and enjoy a range of <strong>activities<\/strong>, from snowmobiling and snowshoeing in winter to forest walking and cycling in summer. Occasionally, she also visits local <strong>outfitters <\/strong>and goes for walks in her own community. Never tired of the <strong>beauty <\/strong>of her vast territory, Christine has even decided to buy a cottage in the same region, close to Wemotaci.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\">\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/vivrelamauricie.ca\/wp-content\/themes\/absolu\/images\/spacer.gif\" class=\"imagePleineHauteur \" alt=\"\" style=\"background-image:url(https:\/\/vivrelamauricie.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/Blogue_Christine-Jean_02-1-760x570.webp\" \/>\n\n\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-9d6595d7 wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\">\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/vivrelamauricie.ca\/wp-content\/themes\/absolu\/images\/spacer.gif\" class=\"imagePleineHauteur  vertical\" alt=\"\" style=\"background-image:url(https:\/\/vivrelamauricie.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/Blogue_Christine-Jean_03-1-750x1000.webp\" \/>\n\n\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>From a more atypical background, Christine has built a great career in the <strong>Atikamekw community<\/strong> <strong>of La Tuque.<\/strong> After returning to school, she faced many challenges. Very <strong>involved<\/strong> in her <strong>community <\/strong>and her <strong>work<\/strong>, she has sat on a number of boards, committees and working groups. \u201cMy school has really been like that for me. I&#8217;ve had a lot of mentors who have influenced me and helped me develop in my community.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Christine knows more than ever that she belongs in this <strong>vast, green area<\/strong>. The sense of belonging she has with her <strong>community <\/strong>has long since won her heart. \u201cWe know our neighbours here. You can&#8217;t go to a place in La Tuque without having a bond that unites you.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For Christine, Mauricie is <strong>vast<\/strong>, but the <strong>people are so close<\/strong>. What&#8217;s more, she has <strong>high hopes<\/strong> for the future of her town, with the arrival of new young people in La Tuque in recent years. \u201cI&#8217;m hopeful about what&#8217;s to come.
